DNA Testing

December 20, 2017

About a month ago I met up with the amazing team at Intercare Wellness they are an incredible new medical wellness clinic who do a range of DNA tests, preventative tests, supplements, and personalised IV Vitadrips along with a number of other medical services.

I totally loved meeting up with and totally nerd-ing out the amazing Dr's Nas and Dr. Mourad Habib. Their knowledge was jaw-dropping.

I have been wanting to do a DNA test for sooo long now but hadn't ever found the right doctor or clinic to get these tests done at. There is a number of DNA tests you can take some that just follow your ancestry but I chose to do the DNA Fit test. This specific test is recommended for anyone who is already fit and looking for a more in-depth analysis of their own bodies and genetics.

I was so excited as the test can tell you what foods are best for you, what your recovery nutrition needs, what your power endurance response is and any future disease potentials, etc. It hones in on small tweaks and lifestyle changes that can make a big impact and turn marginal gains into game-changing results.

The test breaks down and tests for:

My results came through in about 4 weeks they were emailed to me directly and then Dr. Nas gave me a call to go through all the results in more detail. Basically, he was super happy with my genes and said I was pretty 'genetically blessed' his words not mine. hah.

My genetic ability to deal with most things like carbohydrates, saturated fats, caffeine, and alcohol sensitivity all where really low.

My results are below (note these are just the first page of the full report, each of these goes into much more depth once you click on them).

The only one things that my tests showed any alarm was my increased need for vitamin B and vitamin D. But what does this mean???

For Vitamin B, basically, in very short, I am lacking the certain gene MTHFR gene that produces the enzyme that is necessary for properly using vitamin B9. This enzyme is responsible for converting homocysteine into methionine, which the body needs for proper metabolism and muscle growth and which is needed for glutathione creation.

The process of methylation also involves the enzyme from the MTHFR gene, so those with a mutation may have trouble effectively eliminating toxins from the body.

Basically, this isn't the best thing to find out as by lacking this gene it can mean some potential health issues, eg fertility problems, miscarriages, fatigue, Cardiovascular disease, migraines, mental illness etc.

However, it is amazing to find out as I have now found out it is totally manageable through supplementation and lifestyle change.  Also its great to hear this as for me personally it explains a lot of health issues that I have personally experienced over the years eg constantly love b12 levels, chronic fatigue etc.

(As you can see below-raised vitamin B and D need)

I loved finding out all these results and going into depth into my own personal genetic journey. I would seriously recommend doing this, it was so interesting!!

If you have any questions at all, or blog posts you want to see in the future please DM me or comment below and I would love to hear from you and any suggestions you want to hear.

Love Claire
XOXO
